Discover a unique Gastronomic Hiking Week in Andalusia, where spectacular hiking routes in the Sierra de Aracena y Picos de Aroche are combined with authentic local gastronomy.

During this experience you will enjoy walks through some of the most beautiful landscapes of southern Spain, combined with lunches and dinners in traditional restaurants in the Sierra, gastronomic visits and culinary experiences in one of the most unspoilt regions of Andalusia.
Here at Molino Río Alájar we invite you to participate in a week carefully planned to offer you the best that the Sierra has to offer: nature, hiking and local gastronomy.

It is also possible to receive home-cooked meals made with local produce directly at your accommodation.

We have prepared a different programme for each day based on our best personal experiences, after more than 30 years living in the Sierra, both in gastronomy and hiking.

For your convenience, our hiking routes are available in paper format and via QR codes, so that you can consult and follow them easily from your phone.

The programme is available from 15 September to 1 July. You can join any day of the week, although the daily activities remain fixed.

The price for a week's accommodation including breakfast for 2 people is 612,50 € per person (VAT included). This base price is calculated for 2 people in our Búho house. For more people, please contact us.

You also have the possibility to choose the activities individually.

If you travel by bus from Seville (the nearest airport) to Alájar, we will pick you up free of charge and take you to Molino Río Alájar.

Although we can help you arrange taxi transport to the activities, having your own vehicle may be more practical and flexible to move between activities.

On the day of arrival, if you wish, we can offer you a dinner at your home consisting of 3 courses: gazpacho, «pollo Alájar» or mushroom stew and a seasonal dessert. All accompanied by a bottle of wine (35 € per person).

The programme

Day 1 Saturday

La Garganta route. Circular route of 13.5 km. The route takes you through magnificent scenery where you can experience all the beauty of the Sierra: cork oak forests, ravines, meadows and meandering rivers.

If you wish, we can reserve a table for dinner at the most famous restaurant in the village of Alájar,Casa El Padrino,where you can participate in a simple wine tasting in the old wine cellar, which also houses an interesting collection of old agricultural tools.
After the wine and tapas tasting, dinner in the part of the restaurant located in the old chapel, including the chosen bottle of wine (approx. €50 per person).

Day 2 Sunday

From the selection of maps and routes that we will provide you with on arrival, you can choose a circular route starting from your own accommodation.
During the mushroom season you will be able to collect a wide variety of mushrooms. If you wish, and depending on availability, we can put you in contact with guides specialised in mycology. Lunch on this day will be in the restaurant “El Corcho” (a la carte menu), located in the old theatre of Alájar and decorated with cork, hence its name.

Day 3 Monday

Today you will hike to Aguafría with lunch at the restaurant"La Abuela”, where you will enjoy a typical Andalusian meal.
To get there and back you will walk 15.85 km through forests of cork oaks, holm oaks and chestnut trees. You will pass through Santa Ana la Real before reaching the village of Aguafría. After lunch, on the way back you will cross a stream several times before arriving back home.

Day 4 Tuesday

Hiking day around Corteconcepción, famous for the production of Iberian ham which is exported all over the world.
Through the family business“Jamones Eíriz” visitarás la dehesa donde se crían los cerdos, así como los secaderos y bodegas naturales, con una explicación completa del proceso de elaboración.
The experience ends with a tasting-lunch of ham and cold meats accompanied by Condado by 3 wines.
Duration: 2.5 hours (approx. €46 per person).
In the afternoon, we invite you to take part in an Andalusian cooking course at your casa rural. You will learn how to prepare three typical dishes of the region (including drink, 45 € per person). The class is taught in Spanish/English.

Day 5 Wednesday

At 10:00 we have organised a visit to Monte Robledo, a local goat cheese farm.
On this family farm near Aracena, you will learn how to milk goats and make your own cheese, which you can take with you.
The programme includes cheese tasting and a visit to a small museum. Duration: 1h30 (approx. €25 per person + €25 for interpreter if necessary).
You can also have lunch at the finca before visiting Aracena.
You will be able to visit the famous Grotto of Wonders (from €9 per person), with stalactites, stalagmites and underground lakes.
In the evening we recommend having dinner at “Del Tinto al Odiel”, where you can sample Iberian tapas (approx. €35 per person).

Day 6 Thursday

Circular route to the village of Castaño del Robledo, surrounded by chestnut forests.
At midday you can have lunch at the restaurant “Casa Cruz"(approx. €35 per person, à la carte) in Alájar.

Day 7 Friday

Circular route of 13 km along old livestock trails, through cork oak and olive groves, from Alájar to Linares de la Sierra.
Lunch at the Arrieros restaurant (Bib Michelin).
Chef Luismi can offer a tasting menu (approx. €57 per person) or à la carte.
