Holidays with children

Located in the Sierra de Aracena and Picos de Aroche Natural Park, Molino Río Alájar rural houses offer, through this programme, family holidays that combine outdoor experiences in contact with nature, educational and cultural activities, and activities to discover local gastronomy. All ages are welcome!

The region has many picturesque villages and a rich cultural heritage.


The Sierra de Aracena is home to a great biodiversity, with a wide variety of plant and animal species. Families can go bird watching, learn more about the local flora and fauna and take part in environmental education activities.

Known for its local products such as Iberian ham, cheeses and honey, you can taste and discover the local gastronomy in the region's restaurants and shops.

Depending on your arrival time, you can settle into your home and use our facilities.

The programme

Below is the weekly schedule from which activities can be chosen.

Day 1 Saturday - Caves, Castle and Ham!

Visit to the Grutas de las Maravillas in Aracena.

Visit to the Ham Museum in Aracena.
15:00
Visit to the Castle of Aracena and the Cabildo Viejo (interpretation centre of the natural park).

Tourist train.

Day 2 Sunday - Excursion to “Mars”! Visit to the Rio Tinto mines

Visit to the Mining Museum.

Transfer by own car to the mines of Peña de Hierro and the visitor centre.

Transfer by own car to the steam train (departure at 13:30).

Visit Casa 21 (built in 1885) and the English Quarter, where you will learn about the 100 years of British presence in Rio Tinto.

Day 3 Monday - Like Picasso, in nature!

Creative activity in nature: painting, drawing and handicrafts.

Picnic in the countryside with local products.

Day 4 Tuesday - Horse riding!

In Aracena you can go horse riding (beginner level) and discover the landscape of the Sierra de Aracena.

Day 5 Wednesday - Adventurer like Zorro!

Treasure hunt (5.7 km - approx. 2 hours with children)
With the help of our instructions, the children, together with their parents, must find the path that leads to the village of Alájar.
During the walk you must find 5 fountains. Find all the fountains! Take a photo of each one and, upon completing the route, you will receive a diploma with your name as a true explorer of the Sierra.

Day 6 Thursday - Great cheese master!

Visit to an organic goat farm with a cheese dairy.
The activity includes:
- milking the goats
- visit to a small museum with old agricultural implements
- explanation of how cheese is made and how it matures
A workshop where each participant, with the help of María Jesús, makes their own organic cheese to take home

Day 7 Friday - Ecotourism expert!

Ecotourism route from the Peña de Arias Montano.
During this tour you will be able to:
- discovering animal tracks
- birdwatching
- recognising plants
- learning about natural medicinal plants
The route is guided by a guide specialised in ecotourism, a true expert of the area.
