In the Natural Park Sierra de Aracena y Picos de Aroche, the holiday homes of
Molino Río Alájar offer a wonderful family week with a mix of outdoor activities in nature,
educational and cultural outings, and moments to discover local gastronomy.

  • Outdoor activities: having fun together and learning at the same time, right in the middle of nature.

  • Natural parks & reserves: birdwatching, getting to know native species, and joining educational activities.

Saturday: Cave, castle and ham!

  • 10:30 – Visit to the Gruta de las Maravillas (Aracena)
  • 12:00 – Visit to the Jamón Museum (Aracena)
  • 15:00 – Visit to Aracena Castle and the old Town Hall (interpretation centre of the natural park)
  • 17:30 – Tour of Aracena on the tourist train

Sunday: Excursion to ‘Mars’ – Río Tinto Mining Park

  • 10:30 – Visit to the mining museum
  • 11:30 – Drive your own car to the Peña Hierro mines and visitor centre (entry at 12:00)
  • 13:00 – Drive your own car to the steam train (departure 13:30)
  • 17:00 – Visit to House 21 (1885) and the English district: traces of 100 years of British presence in Riotinto

Monday: Like Picasso, in the countryside!

  • 10:00 – 12:00 – Outdoor creativity: painting, drawing and crafts in and with nature around your holiday home
  • 13:00 – Countryside picnic with local products

Tuesday: Don Quixote and his donkey – or hop on a horse!Option 1: a donkey walk starting from your holiday home with José Maria (our donkey-friendly guide).

Option 2: a beginner-level horse ride in Aracena with Picadero El Chaparral.

Wednesday: Adventure day – like Zorro!

  • 11:00 – Treasure hunt/walking route (5.7 km – about 2 hours with children)

Using our instructions, the children (with help from their parents) set off to find the trail towards the village of Alájar.
Extra challenge: find 5 springs during the hike! Take photos of each spring. Found them all? Then a small surprise awaits
at Casa Cruz Restaurant.

Thursday: Cheesemaker – a top day!

  • 10:00 – Visit to an organic farm with a goat cheese dairy

Start by milking the goats, then visit a small museum with old objects and their former uses.
Next, head to the dairy: the making and ageing process is explained. To finish, everyone makes their own
organic cheese to take home.
