Gastronomic Walking Week in the Sierra de Huelva
Discover a unique Gastronomic Hiking Week in Andalusia, where spectacular walking routes through the Sierra de Aracena come together with authentic local cuisine. Enjoy the hikes, traditional restaurants and unforgettable culinary experiences in one of the most unspoilt regions of southern Spain.
At Molino Río Alájar, we invite you to join us for a pre-planned week that showcases the best of the Sierra: walk through some of the most beautiful landscapes in southern Spain and enjoy the finest meals in local restaurants. If you prefer to relax at your rural house, you can also enjoy local products delivered to your accommodation. We have prepared an itinerary based on 25 years of personal experience in the Sierra, both in gastronomy and hiking. For your convenience, all hiking routes are available in paper format and via QR codes, allowing you to follow them on your phone. The plan starts on Saturday, but it is possible to join at any time. Please let us know when booking. The program is available from September 15th to July 1st. The price for the Gourmet Week starts from €612.50 per person (VAT included), based on two people sharing the “Buho” house. For more people, please consult us. You also have the option to include other activities. If you arrive by bus from Seville, we offer free transport to your house. While we can help organize taxi services, having your own vehicle offers more convenience and flexibility. Upon arrival, a 3-course dinner can be served in your house: gazpacho, “Alájar chicken stew” (mushrooms for vegetarians), and a seasonal dessert, accompanied by a bottle of wine (€35 per person).

Saturday
We start our delicious week with our favorite route: La Ruta de La Garganta. Just 13.5 km from your doorstep, this route offers stunning views of the Sierra. You will walk through cork oak forests, ravines, and meadows. Afterward, we can reserve a table for you at “Casa El Padrino” in Alájar for a wine tasting in their ancient cellar, which features a collection of traditional farming tools. Followed by tapas and a 3-course lunch or dinner, including a bottle of wine to celebrate the start of your holiday! (approx. €50 per person).
Sunday
Using the provided maps, you can enjoy a circular route starting directly from your accommodation. During mushroom season, you might spot many varieties; if available, we can put you in touch with local mycological experts. Lunch today is at “El Corcho” (à la carte menu), located in the old theater of Alájar and decorated with cork, as its name suggests.
Monday
Visit Aguafria with lunch at the restaurant “La Abuela” to taste a typical Andalusian meal. This 15.85 km route takes you through cork oak forests and beautiful surroundings, starting from Santa Ana la Real through chestnut groves to Aguafria.
Tuesday
Learn about the production of the world-famous Ibérico ham. Visit the “Jamones Eíriz” cellar, explore the pastures (dehesa), the drying rooms, and the natural cellars to see the entire process of this gourmet product. Finish with a tasting lunch of hams and sausages paired with DO Condado de Huelva wine (approx. 2.5 hours, €46 per person). In the afternoon, we invite you to take part in an Andalusian cooking class in your own holiday home. You will learn how to prepare three typical regional dishes, including a drink (€ 45 per person). The class is held in Spanish/English, and you will discover all the secrets of Andalusian cuisine. Shall we have your apron ready?
Wednesday
At 10:00 AM, visit Monte Robledo, a local goat cheese producer. You can even try milking a goat! The program includes a tasting of various cheeses and a visit to their museum (1.5 hours, approx. €25 per person). Afterward, explore the beautiful town of Aracena and visit the famous “Grutas de las Maravillas” caves (from €9 per person) or the Ham Museum. For dinner, we recommend “Del Tinto al Odiel” for high-quality Ibérico tapas (approx. €35 per person).
Thursday
A circular route through Castaño del Robledo, named after the chestnut forests that surround it. For lunch, you can eat at restaurant “Casa Cruz” (approx. €35 per person, à la carte) in Alájar.
Friday
We close our week at one of the most renowned restaurants in the Sierra: “Arrieros”, included in the Michelin Guide. This 13 km route follows ancient paths through cork and olive groves from Alájar to Linares de la Sierra. Upon arrival, chef Luismi will welcome you with a tasting menu (approx. €57 per person).
